Have you ever needed to change the IP and gateway on a Cisco IOS switch or router remotely? The issue is sometimes you are not able to console into a device or you need to make a change quickly and not worry about the hassle of traveling to the equipment. Well the good new is you can do it! All you need is SSH access and a TFTP or FTP client. Solarwinds or filezilla has a free one you can download.
This command will copy your startup config to your TFTP server.
#copy startup-config tftp
This command will copy back the edited startup config with the new IP and gateway settings.
#copy tftp startup-config
Then you have to reload the device, if prompted to “save config” type “no”.
The device will now boot off of that startup config you edited.
